Clinical Leadership Award

Amy Casteline

Described as a warm, approachable, present, inspiring leader with a vision for the ED, Amy makes the staff feel supported, listened to and inspired.  Although the ED daily census doubled, her leadership enabled the ED to continue proving extraordinary patient care.  100% of the staff achieved TNCC and many completed ENPC and CEN.

Retired trauma nurse and very active ENA volunteer.

Pat, your NJENA peers are extremely grateful for your many years as a volunteer working to advance emergency nursing knowledge in NJ and nationally.   As Trauma Educator, lecturer, TNCC faculty, TNCC and ECC Program committee chairperson and so many more roles you have expertly and graciously fulfilled.  Also, you have been quietly there to educate, assist, mentor and encourage us as we take on new roles within NJENA at the chapter and state level such as officer roles, education, trauma, and conference committee work.

Barbara McCormick

U.S. Air Force Reserve Nurse serving as Chief Nurse for her squadron, a civilian SCTU nurse coordinator, and a clinical professor at Rutgers University.

Barbara, you have been described as a consummate professional nurse who embodies exceptional clinical skills, care and compassion for every patient and family member.  During your deployment in Afghanistan you included Iraqi nurses, medics and physicians in basic trauma and emergency education.  You also defined the new role of an emergency nurse in aeromedical transport.  You never say no and have inspired many nurses through mentoring and support.

ED Geriatric-Palliative Nurse Navigator at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center

Your peers have recognized you for your involvement in safety and injury programs at St Joseph’s Health ED since 2016.  As an active member of the NICHE program you advocate daily for palliative and hospice patients. You are recognized for your collaboration with the Health Care Coalition of Passaic County, National Council of Aging and participation in Boston on the delirium expert work group on how a family’s perspective of delirium effects on daily lifestyle.

ED Advance Practice Nurse at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center

Your peers have described you as a warm and caring bedside advance practice nurse who is an exceptional team player and strong patient advocate. Tony includes everyone on the care team in the patient plan of care.  His humility, wisdom and compassion combined with his passion for high-quality and unwillingness to settle for less as a nurse make him a complete force that is truly appreciated in the ED.

Northern Chapter is being recognized for implementation of creative solutions which have been successful over the past few years with increasing member involvement in chapter events.

Team Award

St. Joseph’s Health ALTO Team

This multidisciplinary team worked to create Alternatives to Opioid use in the ED.  Comprehensive clinical practice guidelines enabled the ED to use many different approaches to control pain reducing ED opioid use by over 80%!  The team created important partnerships with community organizations to promote OORP (Outpatient Opioid Recovery Programs) for patients with Opioid Use Disorder.  This team developed MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment) in the ED for buprenorphine treatment along with a Naloxone outreach program.  The nationally recognized ALTO team is leading the education of Opioid Reduction Options in partnership with NJHA.

General Assembly 2021 will occur on September 21 & 22 in Orlando, Florida! This event will be IN PERSON (there is not a virtual option for GA). Advanced Practice Nurse Award: Click Here

This award recognizes excellence as an advanced practice nurse in an emergency care setting. Recipients will be recognized by their peers, nursing and/or physician colleagues, and/or patients as clinical experts who deliver compassionate care in an emergency care setting. Recipients will be actively involved in promoting the role and strengthening emergency nursing.

This award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions behind the scenes to promote NJENA’s mission of advocating for patient safety and excellence in nursing practice through their support of a member or members. This person is an NJENA advocate who is often seen but not heard and who donates countless hours to assist in achieving our goals.

This award recognizes a nurse who has consistently demonstrated excellence in the profession of emergency nursing and has made significant contributions through an emergency nursing management role. At least one letter of support must be from a nurse or nurses that the nominee supervises.

Crisis Response Team Award: Click Here

This award recognizes an emergency department healthcare team who has risen above-and-beyond to achieve ENA’s mission by responding to the challenges of working during a crisis situation (natural or man-made disasters, public health crisis).

This award recognizes a new ENA member (membership less than 5 years) who has made significant contributions to ENA and/or NJENA as exhibited by involvement at chapter, state and/or national levels, lighting the way for the future of emergency nursing. One of the letters of support must be from the nominee’s State or Chapter President.

This award recognizes an individual nurse who has made significant contributions to the profession of emergency nursing by conducting research, disseminating research findings or using research to improve outcomes.

This award recognizes a NJENA nurse who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the care of the older adult in an emergency care setting.

This award recognizes a nurse who has made significant contributions to the education of colleagues, nursing students, EMS personnel, patients, families or the community through the publication of articles, formal or informal courses, or the development of a specific emergency nursing program or curriculum.

Nursing Practice and Professionalism Award: Click Here

This award recognizes a nurse who exemplifies outstanding emergency nursing practice as demonstrated through clinical skills, care and compassion. This nurse consistently performs above and beyond the requirements of the job description in delivering quality care to patients, and participates in nursing programs, committees, or projects contributing to emergency nursing practice. The nurse is an expert in emergency nursing who consistently exhibits traits associated with professional behavior and commitment to professional values. The individual must be active within the profession and influences emergency nursing through interaction with other professionals, the media or the public. This individual may demonstrate outstanding commitment to a to a specialty population such as pediatrics or older adults within the specialty of emergency nursing.
